Realtors learn tenants' rights in a foreclosure

Karnopp Petersen attorneys Tom Sayeg and Tami MacLeod spoke recently at a packed seminar for Central Oregon Association of Realtors (COAR).

Central Oregon realtors gathered to learn about a topic that is increasingly affecting the Central Oregon rental market: Tenant’s Rights (and Landlord's Obligations) for Distressed Properties. Tami discussed landlord-tenant law for residential properties, including rights tenants have when properties are subject to foreclosure, tenants' obligations during this time period and some steps landlords and tenants can take to protect themselves. Tom discussed transactional differences for commercial properties and how tenants can protect themselves in the event of the foreclosure of the leased property by using subordination, non-disturbance and attornment agreements.

Tom focuses his practice in the areas of real estate law, business law, taxation and estate planning. In addition to his J.D., Tom holds degrees in Accounting and Taxation.

Tami focuses her practice in real estate law, creditors’ rights, litigation and land use. Tami is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from Creditors’ Rights, Foreclosures, Short Sales, Deeds in Lieu, Tenants’ Rights and other legal areas of interest in real estate.
