Understanding the New Disability Laws: Equal Access to the “ADAAA”
Brace yourself for changing laws and longer acronyms: the “ADAAA” (the Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA Amendments Act) goes into effect January 1, 2009. This new law greatly expands the scope of protection for disabled employees, overturning several significant U.S. Supreme Court decisions that narrowly interpreted the reach of the federal disability law. Now’s the time to prepare for the coming changes.
- Which employers are affected by the new law?
- What are the fundamental protections for employees under the disability laws, and how does the ADAAA expand those protections?
- How can an employer work to avoid liability for discrimination, “failure to accommodate” and other claims?
-
When is a conversation legally required under the disability
laws? (Hint: if the phrase “interactive
process” is unfamiliar, you really need our
seminar.)
Come for an engaging and informative discussion about the new
changes and what employers need to know. We’ll
cover fundamentals of compliance with state and federal
disability laws as well, as we help you prepare for the coming
changes.
